Say hello to my unfinished healthy recipe! This Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware is my go-to. PFAS-free, made in the USA, and super versatile!

This post is sponsored by Nordic Ware!

Here’s the main thing I want to tell you: I use this 12-inch skillet for dinner literally almost every night and it’s amazing. They are wider than my other pans, so I can cook 4-6 pieces of salmon or chicken perfectly. It has good browning and relieving properties. It is PFAS free. Made in the USA. And I really like it.

I know (because people tell me!) that many of us enjoy the ease and care of nonstick cooking, but it’s hard to find a product that’s well-made, stands the test of time, and is clearly made too. a reliable brand they can trust.

Today is all about getting into the details of that! Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware by Nordic Ware checks all these boxes for me right now.

Nordic Ware bakeware is already a staple in many kitchens – their gold standard baking sheets are made in the USA and have a bit of a cult following. And their Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware, new within the last year, was specifically designed to address the laws in the state of Minnesota regarding the use of PFAS.

I was using this cookware almost every day since I got my set a few months ago. Here are my 5 favorite things about it!

1. These Pans Are Amazing for Cooking Protein.

To be clear, I use my Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware for everything – pasta skillet, one pan chicken and rice bowl, etc.

But I really like pan-frying and sautéing proteins.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever found a pan that makes it so easy to get your proteins to golden, juicy perfection without fighting any sticking, browning, or overcooking. See consistently I gave it a nice crisp on the outside but allowed the meat to release easily. YES!

While the exterior has a ceramic nonstick coating, the base of the pan itself is made of aluminum which is why it heats up and browns evenly!

I’ve never been one to enjoy just searing a chicken breast in a skillet… until these pans. This Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware really makes me love it. Shrimp, chicken, salmon, eggs, and tofu – all cook well in these pans.

My Favorite Pan Sizes

I have all sizes of this line, and these are my two favorites:

  • 8-inch skillet (a small “egg pan” suitable for cooking 1-3 eggs at a time)
  • 12-inch skillet (a wide skillet that works surprisingly well for daily meals for 4-6 people)

I use a 12-inch skillet for dinner literally almost every night. It’s wide enough to comfortably cook 4-6 pieces of salmon or chicken and I really like that.

You can buy individual pans, but you can also buy them as a set – this set gives you the most commonly used skillet sizes (including two of my favorites) all in one package.

2. These pans are PFAS / PTFE / PFOA Free.

PFAS is found in many products—cloth, carpet, cosmetics, fast food packaging—and historically, stovetop cookware.

In the state of Minnesota (where I live, and where Nordic Ware is headquartered), we have a new regulation that says as of January 1, 2025, companies cannot make or sell products with PFASwhich is a family of chemicals that are considered “permanent chemicals.” This includes cookware.

Nordic Ware is a Minnesota company and has has developed Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware to meet these new PFAS-free standards. I LOVE THIS. They are the leader in sustainable cookware in Minnesota and nationally.

So, in addition to these very good dishes to use:

  • They are PFAS / PTFE / PFOA free.
  • They use a Swiss Ceramic coating (three layers) to provide nonstick release properties.
  • Because of ceramic, they are healthy for our bodies.
  • Because of the ceramic, they are better for the environment.

3. Can be used on the stovetop or in the oven.

I love versatility, and these pans are incredibly versatile.

They can be used on the stovetop – ideally over medium heat – and can be used in the oven at temperatures up to 400 degrees.

4. Made in the USA by a Family Owned Company.

Only two companies make their cookware right here in the USA – Lodge (Tennessee) and Nordic Ware (Minnesota).

As a Minnesotan, I love that these pans are not only made in the USA, but especially right here in our beloved state of Minnesota!

We had the opportunity to visit Nordic Ware’s headquarters and factory, and I really like that in addition to being family owned, they also have incredible transparency in their production process and facilities.

You can even check out these pans being made in the factory here!

5. Pans are Very Easy to Store.

You know I like low maintenance, and Basalt Ceramic Nonstick Cookware is easy to clean and maintain. They are non-sticky and easy to clean!

For washing: We just wash them like we do all our dishes – with a soft soapy cloth or sponge. A quick shower, inside and out, about 30 seconds, and you’re good to go. I don’t put them in the dishwasher.

Recipe: Keeping the heat at a moderate temperature will also keep the pans clean. I’ve found that this keeps the release properties at their best – if the heat is right, and a little oil or butter, your fried eggs, chicken, tofu, or whatever you’re cooking should slide and flip easily. !

With both of these things in mind, this lovely ceramic cookware is designed to last for several years and offers you a safe option for cooking without sticks.
